Jeet Kune Do (JKD)

Jeet Kune Do is an eclectic and hybrid martial art heavily influenced by the philosophy of martial artist Bruce Lee, who founded the system on July 9, 1967. It is referred to as “non-classical,” suggesting that JKD is a form of Chinese Kung Fu, yet without form. Unlike more traditional martial arts, Jeet Kune Do is not fixed or patterned, and it is a philosophy with guiding thoughts. It was named for the Wing Chun concept of interception or attacking while one’s opponent is about to attack. JKD practitioners believe in minimal movements with maximum effects and extreme speed. The system works by using different tools for different situations, where the situations are divided into ranges such as kicking, punching, trapping, and grappling, while using techniques to flow smoothly between them. You can call it the art of fighting without fighting.

Filipino Martial Arts

Filipino martial arts integrate ancient and newer fighting methods from the Philippines, incorporating elements from both Western and Eastern martial arts. The most popular forms of which are known as Arnis, Eskirma, and Kali. The intrinsic need for self-preservation was the genesis of these systems. Throughout the ages, invaders and evolving local conflict imposed new dynamics for combat in the islands now making up the Philippines. The Filipino people developed battle skills as a direct result of an appreciation of their ever-changing circumstances.

Street Jujitsu

Street Jujitsu is aimed at making the martial arts work for everyone. It is known for its weapon disarming techniques. Starting with common mugging situations, students learn to defend from open hand muggers from front and behind. This system incorporates knife, club, gun, and multiple attacker situations, including how to defend against them (and other weapons). You will learn how to handle standing and moving attacks from the front or behind, sitting, and lying on your back or stomach.

Cardio Combat

Cardio Combat is fast paced, highly energetic cardio blitz. It is designed for the cardio enthusiast who enjoys the empowerment of martial arts, but doesn’t want the actual combat. It will tone up your mental and physical being and push you past your “Comfort Zone.”

Self Defense

The Self Defense program is dedicated to empowering women with knowledge to reduce the occurrence of all assault crimes. The program provides effective options by teaching women to take an active role in their own self-defense and psychological well-being.

It is a comprehensive course that begins with classroom instruction in risk awareness, risk education, crime prevention strategies, and defensive concepts followed by hands-on training in physical defense techniques. Class instruction and demonstrations will allow you to decrease your vulnerability and give you a new sense of confidence and personal power. Class activities and discussions are designed to help women identify their risks, evaluate their strengths, and explore their options for dealing with the threat of violence.

Physical self-defense is most effective when vulnerable areas of the body are targeted. Some of the skills taught will include multiple strikes to vulnerable areas, as well as escapes from choke holds, body grasps, and defense techniques from the ground.
